Scary Movie 3

Synopsis

The comedy spoof series that knows no fear is at it again with its funniest installment yet: SCARY MOVIE 3. Taking shots at the latest crop of block-busters, SCARY MOVIE 3 irreverently roasts "The Ring," "Signs," "Matrix Reloaded," "8 Mile," "The Others" and more, as well as pop culture trends such as "American Idol." The film brings director David Zucker back to the genre he helped create with the classics "Airplane!," "Naked Gun," "Naked Gun 2 1/2" and "Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult."

It all begins when roving reporter Cindy Campbell (Anna Faris) sets out to find a hard news story in the middle of television sweeps. She soon uncovers an outrageous onslaught of globe-threatening developments including alien invaders, killer videotapes, freaky crop circles, prophecies of The One, eerie-eyed children, ambitious white rappers and even a run-in with Michael Jackson. Faced with conspiracies of massive proportions, and a crew of very strange people following her around, Cindy must fight to stop evil from taking over the world yet again all while sparing no plot line from SCARY MOVIE 3's assault of fast-flying twists that blow the lid off the original movie scenes.

Production Note

With the movie "Airplane!," writer and director David Zucker helped to forge a new, zanier landscape for American film comedy, encouraging future comics to push more barriers, have more uninhibited fun and send up everything and everyone in their paths with equal cleverness and glee. The film’s joke-a-second dialogue was delivered in a fast-paced, straight-faced manner by the cast as if they were in a serious film, making it all the more hilarious. Zucker continued to raise the bar of spoof humor with the hit films "Naked Gun," "Naked Gun 2 1/2" and "Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult."

When David Zucker was offered the chance to direct SCARY MOVIE 3, he jumped at the chance to return to his irreverent roots with the already well-established spoof series. When he took a good look at today’s movies and pop culture scene -- there was no way he could resist all the sincerely frightening material just crying out to be satirized.

"I thought the original 'Scary Movie' was extremely funny," says Zucker, " and when I watched some recent releases such as 'The Ring,' 'Eight Mile,' 'Signs' and 'The Matrix: Reloaded' I was hooked -- there was just too much going on in these movies that was ripe for the spoofing. I was sure we could make a really funny movie by turning these popular movies inside out."

SCARY MOVIE 3 gave Zucker a chance to reunite with another master of mischievous satire: his former writing pal Pat Proft, with whom he worked on the "Naked Gun" series, among others. Pat joined the roster of comic talents, including Craig Mazin and Zucker himself, who together brainstormed the script and its non-stop barrage of totally topical jokes. "It was a true team effort," says Zucker of the script. "I’ve never experienced an atmosphere like this before, where there was a constant challenge for each writer to be more and more funny with each and every line."
